It made for great oratory between eminent trial attorneys, and put the debate over teaching evolution on the front pages of newspapers across the country. But one thing the Scopes Monkey Trial did not do was settle the contentious issue of evolution in the schools, which continues to incite strong passions and lawsuits to this day. This presentation will explore the nefarious motives behind the bringing of this lawsuit, and dispel ten Hollywood and Broadway-created myths in films and plays arising from this national story.

Led by the Honorable Dennis J. Curran, retired Massachusetts Superior Court Justice. Curran is a member of the national Board of Advisors of The Lincoln Forum, a Life Member of the Surratt Society, and a Fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society. The author of 42 book chapters and articles, he has taught at Tufts University, Roger Williams University of School of Law, and Brown University.
