The Christmas season, of course, means presents courtesy of Santa Claus. For particularly naughty individuals, it might mean receiving a disappointing lump or two of coal. Santa developed from St. Nicholas, and in the dark folkloric traditions of Austria and some surrounding countries, St. Nicholas might be accompanied by an alarming colleague, there to punish the unworthy in ways more dire than simply doling out underwhelming gifts. St. Nicholas's most dreaded companion was the Krampus, sometimes called the "Christmas devil." Learn about the "dark side" of Christmas folklore. You better watch out. You better not cry. Led by Gregory Williams, who was a District Court judge for many years, retiring as the First Justice of the Edgartown District Court in 2015.
