VIRTUAL: TEWKSBURY GENEALOGY GROUP -- Huzzah! There’s a Lineage Society for That!

Monday, June 67:00—8:30 PMOnlineTewksbury Public Library300 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA, 01876

**PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM THAT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA ZOOM. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Meeting via email.**

The Tewksbury Genealogy Group is open to everyone who's interested in genealogy. Each meeting -- which will take place via Zoom -- consists of a presentation from a guest speaker (typically a professional genealogist), followed by a period where members can briefly share their latest genealogy research, and then the library will share a genealogy resource its patrons can access for free.

The June 2022 meeting will feature genealogist Kathleen Kaldis's presentation on how to join lineage societies. Joining a Lineage Society is one of the best ways to honor your ancestors connection to a specific historical event or place. Each society has its own and specific application process and genealogical requirements in order to be approved as a member. However, each one has this in common, it requires the applicant to fully document their relationship to the qualifying ancestor. In most cases, the applicant must prove and document a direct lineal connection to the qualifying ancestor; some linage societies allow applicants to apply under an aunt or uncle. Proving the lineage can be the trickiest part of the application process for most individuals. This lecture will focus on Four Topics: 1) Popular Lineage Societies; 2) General Application Process and Procedures; 3) Useful Tools When Documenting Lineage; 4) Common Do's & Don'ts When Applying to Lineage Societies. Led by Kathleen Kaldis, a professional genealogist and speaker who is known as "The Ancestor Finder." She has worked as a Genealogist at the New England Historic and Genealogical Society and currently takes on private clients in forensic genealogical cases. Kathleen is an instructor in the Military Records Course offered through the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research. She holds a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University and has successfully completed many advanced level genealogical institute courses. Her areas of expertise are: Lineage, Forensic, and Maritime Research.
