On September 21, 1938, a massive hurricane hit New York and New England, to the surprise of almost all residents. The Great New England Hurricane, one of the most destructive storms in American History, caused over 600 deaths and $400 million in property damages. What made this storm so unique? In this illustrated lecture from Historic New England's Michael Maler, learn about the impact and aftermath of the Hurricane of 1938. 

About Michael: Michael Maler is the Metro-Boston Regional Site Manager for Historic New England, overseeing the daily operations of five historic house museums. He holds a degree in art history from Duke University and a Masters Degree in Museum Studies from Harvard University, where he currently supports the faculty with graduate level teaching. Michael  has held staff positions at the Paul Revere House, Historic Beverly, the Portland Museum of Art, the Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk, Maine, and is an active member of the New England Museum Association, the American Association for State and Local History, and the Downtown Boston House Museum Alliance.
