Hirsch, the author of Forgotten Drinks of Colonial New England: From Flips and Rattle-Skulls to Switchel and Spruce Beer, will explore the roots and reasons behind early Americans' enthusiasm for drink. She’ll also break down the building blocks of a rudimentary colonial-era bar and touch on key events where alcohol played a role. Segueing from the 1700s to present day, she’ll also touch on her adventures as a food critic in New England and on Long Island, where she’s part of the busy food team at Newsday.
