Enjoy a fast-paced introduction to the six major furniture styles that were popular in New England from the seventeenth century to the early decades of the nineteenth. The lecture will also provide clues to identifying furniture in different styles and also suggests the changing influences, materials, and technology behind the furniture made over two centuries in New England. Led by Nancy Carlisle, the Senior Curator of Collections at Historic New England where she has worked for more than thirty years. She is the author of the award-winning book Cherished Possessions: A New England Legacy and the co-author of America’s Kitchens.
