Author Kimberly Zieselman will discuss her critically-acclaimed book, XOXY: A Memoir, in this ZOOM webinar. Zieselman, a regular suburban housewife and mother, discovered later in life that she was born intersex, fueling her to become an international human rights defender, globally-recognized activist and author of XOXY, which was named a 2021 Stonewall Honor Book, one of the top honors for LGBTQIA+ books.

About The Book: Charting her intersex discovery and her journey to self-acceptance, XOXY movingly portrays how being intersex impacted Kimberly's personal and family life, as well as her career. From uncovering a secret that was intentionally kept from her, to coming out to her family and friends and fighting for intersex rights, her candid and empowering story helps breakdown barriers and misconceptions of intersex people and brings to light the trauma and harmful impact medical intervention continues to have on the intersex community. Written from a non-queer perspective, and filled with much-needed, straightforward information and advice about what it means to be intersex, this is a vital and timely resource for intersex people and their families, as well as the general reader.

About The Author: Kimberly Zieselman is an intersex woman, lawyer and former Executive Director of interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth, with more than 25 years of experience in advocacy and nonprofit advocacy, including working as Director of Government Relations at Boston Children's Hospital. She served on the board of InterConnect, the largest intersex support group in the US and participated as an expert consultant to the UN Office of the High Commissioner. Kimberly is currently co-producing a film, "Common As Red Hair," and regularly consults on intersex media projects and has been quoted and/or published in outlets including USA Today, New York Times, Washington Post, BBC, and CNN.
