Using both popular examples from the literary canon (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird) and her own work (including Dear Martin and Dear Justyce), award-winning, bestselling author Nic Stone will highlight the ways fiction has been used to raise social awareness, challenge the status quo, and make change. Audience members will be inspired to tap their own wells of creativity for the sake of resistance.

About The Author: Nic Stone is an Atlanta native and a Spelman College graduate. After working extensively in teen mentoring and living in Israel for several years, she returned to the United States to write full-time. Nic is the author of Dear Martin, a New York Times bestseller and 2018 William C. Morris Award finalist, which explores a teen's struggles with race relations. She is also the author of Odd One Out, a novel about discovering oneself and who it is okay to love, which was an NPR Best Book of the Year and a Rainbow Book List Top Ten selection, and Jackpot, a love-ish story that takes a searing look at economic inequality. Most recently, Nic published a sequel to Dear Martin called Dear Justyce, casting a spotlight on the American juvenile justice system.
