Travel to Azores and Madeira, Portuguese islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Many Portuguese immigrants to the New England coast originated from these islands. A short plane ride away from Boston, they are a pleasant, scenic, and affordable island get-away. Led by Jack Holmes, a travel photographer and owner of "Images From Near and Far" at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. A retired high school teacher, he previously served as President of the Greater Lynn Photographic Association and Gallery Manager of the Loading Dock Gallery in Lowell.
