Learn about the rich history of the Coast Guard, which began right here in the Bay State, and the many Massachusetts servicemen and women who made a contribution to its history. The U.S. Lighthouse Establishment, U.S. Lifesaving Service, Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation, and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service were all predecessors to today’s modern Coast Guard. From the Departments of Treasury, Transportation to Homeland Security, this federal service has evolved into an organization with dozens of missions, some of which may surprise. Led by Greg Ketchen, a retired U.S. Coast Guard Captain and President of the Coast Guard Heritage Museum in Barnstable.
