Tewksbury Job Seekers Network: How I Survived A Job Loss, One Breath At A Time
Monday, June 242:00—3:30 PMMeeting RoomTewksbury Public Library300 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA, 01876
Job loss can have a cascading impact on one’s life. Loss of income is often compounded by a diminished sense of identity or self-worth; lost connections; strains on relationships; changes in lifestyle; threats to financial security; decreased physical and mental health; increased personal and family stress; depression; anxiety; and even higher mortality risk. Dismissal from work ranks in the top 10 Stressful Life Events on the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale. This presentation acknowledges the deep despair and disempowerment that can accompany the loss of a job, and suggests strategies for coping and renewal, drawn from the presenter’s personal experience. Led by Clare Siska, who spent her career in the publishing and educational technology sectors, holding roles in editorial, content development, and management. In April 2014, Clare was laid off from her longstanding corporate position and found herself in search of her authentic self. She is now the proud owner of Acton Critter Sitters, an award-winning pet sitting business. Clare lives in Acton with her own three dogs and many other visiting critters. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
