Tuesday, August 85:00—8:00 PMMeeting RoomTewksbury Public Library300 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA, 01876
Give a T-shirt a new look using ancient design techniques from cultures on the other side of the world. Learn some interesting history about the travels of a cotton T-shirt, how it is made and why blue is the color blue. Fashion first - history second. Promise! Artist and designer, Rhonda M. Fazio from Dyer Maker Studio will set up a textile design lab and instruct students on how to upcycle a used t-shirt to look like new again. Participants will be encouraged to bring an old shirt to design and dye with Indigo. Ms. Fazio will discuss methods of textile design and lead a discussion on the origins of these natural resources, brought to life with storytelling, and how they connect to the culture and diversity of our shared American history.
All materials will be provided except the T-shirts.
Please bring your own t-shirt. 100% cotton works best. White or light color is fine, no brown, black or blue shirts.
This event is for teens entering grades 6-12 in September 2023. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Tewksbury Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
