Emily Sargent had been over shadowed as an artist by her older brother, John Singer Sargent, until over 400 of her watercolors were recently distributed to a variety of public museums. Emily traveled with her brother throughout Europe and, particularly after 1900, created hundreds of landscapes of her experiences. Josephine Nivison, an artist and teacher in New York City, married Edward Hopper when they were both in their 40s. Jo Hopper then devoted her energies to Edward’s success for almost 50 years. Explore how each of their artistic lives reflected the historic events of their time. Led by Martha Chiarchiaro, owner of Seeing History, who has brought history to life through the art of the times for more than 30 years. She received her Masters’ degree in the History of Art from Williams College and provides a variety of art history presentations at the Worcester Art Museum, the Worcester Institute for Senior Education (WISE), libraries, senior centers, and garden clubs.
