Evening Book Group Meeting: The Spymistress

Wednesday, October 246:30—8:00 PMMeeting RoomTewksbury Public Library300 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA, 01876

The library's Evening Book Group is reading The Spymistress by Jennifer Chiaverini this month. Born to slave-holding aristocracy in Richmond, Virginia, and educated by Northern Quakers, Elizabeth Van Lew was a paradox of her time. When her native state seceded in 1861, Van Lew's convictions compelled her to defy the new Confederate regime. Pledging her loyalty to the Lincoln White House, her courage would never waver, even as her wartime actions threatened not only her reputation, but also her life. Books and discussion guides are available at the Front Desk beginning September 26. New readers and new points of view are always welcome! No registration required.
